Theatre Daedalus

Playwright Bio

Jeremy SonyJeremy Sony began writing stories at the age of eight—his earliest projects weaving Greek and Egyptian mythos into his tales of eveyday people. Two decades later, his themes gravitate towards mortality, the choices we make, and the path of consequence we travel as a result.

Some of Jeremy's plays include Meeting God on a Tuesday Morning and Do They Expedite There?—his first play to be featured at the Curtain Players Playwrights Festival in 2005. His most recent full-length play, Seperation Anxiety received a workshop performance at the 2008 Curtain Players Playwrights Festival and was named a Finalist in the Long Beach Playhouse's 18th Annual New Works Festival. It was also named among the top 100 Stage Play Script Winners in the 75th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition in 2006.

Jeremy received his B.A. in Film, Television and Theatre from the University of Notre Dame. After an "eclectic" four years of college, he moved to the outer-fringe of Chicago and then to Los Angeles, where he proceeded to do nothing creative with his life. In 2003, Jeremy relocated to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio, where he dusted off an interest in theatre, auditioning for a local production. To his great surprise, he was offered a role, and that inciting incident sent his life careening off in a new, exciting direction. Five years and near to a dozen productions later, Jeremy is serving his second term as President of Curtain Players Theatre. He has been recognized by the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT), the Ohio Community Theatre Association (OCTA), and the Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable for his writing, acting, and directing. After being workshopped at the 2005 Curtain Players Playwrights Festival, his one-act Do They Expedite There? represented Curtain Players at the state of Ohio AACTFest in February of the same year. Jeremy admits to recently becoming a fan of theatrical mechanics and continues to direct and act whenever possible to deepen his education on the construction and dynamics of stageplays.

Jeremy has also written a number of scripts for film and television. His script The Fountain Project was a semi-finalist in the Chesterfield Writer's Film Project and Daybringer, co-written by Michael S. Parsons, placed in the top 25 percent in the 2006 Expo Screenplay Competition and was a Quarterfinalist in the 2007 AAA Screenplay Contest / Teleplay Division. He is currently working to develop Separation Anxiety into an independent film, which he plans to direct in the Winter of 2008–2009.

During the day, Jeremy works as a Communications and Marketing Associate in the philanthropic sector—which includes website editing, publication layout design, digital photography/editing, podcasting, and writing assignments, and is a member of the Columbus chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). He also serves as webmaster for Curtain Players theatre and Theatre Daedalus and freelances as a graphic designer. Jeremy is an Associate Member of the Dramatists Guild and resides in Columbus, Ohio.
